Stage 1 (1954– 1975)

Mr. Van Dan Nguyen (Now settled down in France)

  • Since prior to 1975, customers in Saigon have been familiar with Kymdan Mattresses. People can still recall Kymdan’s first appearance in 1954. The founder of the company, Mr Van Dan Nguyen (born in 1926 in Tan Duan Trung, Go Cong), gained patent license No 831 on September 26th, 1962. The founder has been acknowledged for his tremendous efforts working on the design and manufacturing of foam mattresses.

Stage 2 (1984 – 1998)

  • In 1975 (30 April 1975 – South Vietnam was liberated and Vietnam was unified.), Mr Van Dan Nguyen and his family migrated to France. Once settled, Mr. Van Dan Nguyen returned to his research, focusing on foam mattress manufacturing as means to make Kymdan products more reliable. Kymdan mattresses then became renowned for absorbing heat produced by the human body. As a result, Mr. Van Dan Nguyen acquired another patent license No 269364 from the Fair Trade Authorities in France on February 10th, 1984.

Science and Technology of natural rubber book
  • Kymdan products were unavailable in Vietnam during this period of time. By 1984, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri (the son of Mr. Nguyen Van Dan) took up the position of Manager of the state-owned Enterprise for Life Improvement, controlled by the Union of Rubber Industry Enterprises, which produced Ho-Chi-Minh sandals, eel-pot-shaped sandals (for Vietnamese soldiers), military belts, sheet panels for roofing (ebonite hard rubber roofing), tapises, rubber pipes, joints, engineering rubber, ....
  • In 1989, Vietnam’s economy began to change. Mr. Tri again decided to reproduce natural foam mattress with the vision of reviving the Kymdan brand. During this period, he invented a series of formulas, processes and procedures. And by utilizing the latest technology he developed the most natural, durable and comfortable mattress the world has to offer.

During this period Mr Tri faced many challenges, the equipment and machinery was not quite capable of producing what he had wanted. In addition, the recognition of the Kymdan brand had vanished from 1975 to 1988. Despite this, Mr Tri still believed his product had very strong future.

Stage 3 (1999 – 2008: transformed into a joint-stock company)

  • On Feb 1st, 1999, Sai Gon Kymdan-Rubber Stock Company franchise was established. Having the advantage of ample shareholder capital, the company invested in subsidiaries, modern facilities and automation in order to increase production capacity and meet growing demand for KYMDAN products in domestic and foreign markets.

  • After privatization, KYMDAN experienced strong growth in production and market development by taking advantage of shareholder capital and automation. Due to successful privatization, the brief period from 1999 to 2008 saw KYMDAN achieve continuous increase in sales (see growth chart). . Annual turnover of KYMDAN increased 37% on average and there was an increase of 61% in one of those years.

In this period, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri was Chairman of the Management Board and General Manager of Saigon – KYMDAN Rubber Joint Stock Company.

Stage 4 (from2009 – Global Integration)

  • On January 1, 2009, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri handed management power and position to his son Mr. Nguyen Tri Tan and to a youthful management board. Mr. Tri continued his tenure as Chairman of the Management Board.

  • Mr. Tan is the third generation of KYMDAN family that operates the company. Having been trained methodically overseas (graduated from Victoria of Technology – Melbourne, Australia, majoring in International Trade), and having experienced various titles such as Director of Kymdan Australia, Deputy General Director in charge of international trade, the experiences accumulated by Mr. Tan will be further developed once he handles the important responsibility of the executive leader of the Company. In reality, while under Mr. Tan’s directorship, Kymdan Australia was one of the most efficient affiliates of Kymdan beyond Vietnam’s border.

  • Mr. Tan took the position of KYMDAN General Manager in a time of global economic recession that had negative impact on the company’s production and business activities. Such a situation gave Tan and his goard of management a chance to prove their capabilities and challenged them as leaders. They had important responsibility to company shareholders and staff for sustaining KYMDAN’s development during the global integration process.
